Up for sale, a 1965 Harmony H420 tube amp, a rare Valco produced and USA-made alternative to the famed Supro Thunderbolt! Produced in the same Valco factory as the Thunderbolt and marketed by Harmony to pair with their guitar line, the H420 is extremely similar in terms of circuit and layout to its more famous Supro cousin, with the added benefit of individual Treble and Bass controls. Rich, powerful, and nuanced, the H420 pushes 35 watts through a pair of original RCA 6L6GC power tubes and the original Jensen C15N speaker. For everything from clean, wooly rhythm tones to saturated tube overdrive further up on the volume dial, this Harmony delivers a pure sound with a simple yet ingenious circuit. The circuit is completely stock, with CTS pots that date to 1965 and original impressively sized transformers as well. The faceplate retains its original shiny chrome appearance, with all of the original black silkscreen graphics and lettering, as well as a minty trio of stock witch hat knobs. The Jensen C15N speaker has a near mint black speaker frame, gold foil label on the ceramic magnet, and date code from’65. The original black ostrich tolex is extremely clean too, with only a few requisite scuffs and light marks of wear on the edges of the enclosure. Built by Valco for montgomery ward. I believe a 1971. There is alot of humm buzz coming from the amp. Where the middle light is the plastic is broke. It powers on and you can play a instrument through it. Its not 100% playable condition and needs shopped. It seems like the reverb had some troubles. I replaced two 12ax7 tubes with new JJ’s as the old ones where micro-phonic. It may have more bad tubes. The reverb circuit seemed to make a bunch of unwanted noise. YOU WILL HAVE TO PICK IT UP AT THE NEAREST BUS STATION TO YOU. Most bus station or within 25 miles of somebody’s house. Most people don’t mind picking up there items as its normally not that far. Check out this beautifully preserved old Supro! The power-cord is hilariously under-built, which perfectly demonstrates this items original 60′s mystique. The amp works beautifully and the tremolo knob together with the dual glass vacuum tubes produce a classic analog sound that is hard to find today. Unfortunately two plastic knob covers are missing, but this is a simple fix to the right enthusiast. As you can see from the pictures, there is very little damage to the wood and cloth covering the wood. The front speaker mesh is also very weather-free. Please make an offer! Up for sale, a 1962 Rex model 6143 Class A tube amplifier in excellent condition and in good working order. Made by Valco in the USA (the parent company responsible for Supro, National, Airline, and others), this amp has a responsive snappy sound that quickly overdrives. The circuit retains the original Magnetic Components output transformer which dates to 1962, and the tube compliment includes a 50L5 power tube, 35Z5 rectifier, and ECC83 and 117Z3 valves in the preamp. The original 8 Jensen speaker retains its original speaker cone, with the original square foil label on the alnico magnet. The cabinet retains the original fawn textured covering, with stock handle and feet. The brass plating on the chassis shows moderate patina, and there’s a bit of light wear on the corners of the enclosure as well. 1950′s Valco Supro Chicago 51 Tube Guitar Amp Vintage Vibe. It has that classic, small tube amp sound. Valco made these for many different companies, this one was probably Supro branded (black stripes down the front) but it doesn’t have the front “Supro” decal. Measures 14″ x 15″ x 7.5. At some point someone changed out the grill cloth with the regal looking metallic mesh. The handle is also metal and non original. Otherwise all the tubes and electronics seem to be original. This is a vintage Airline 62-9025A guitar amp that was builtby the famous Valco amp company around 1965. This amp has two”regular” and one “bright” inputs. Built-in Tremeloand Spring Reverb are accessible on all inputs. The amp comes with all original RCA power, rectifier and premap tubes. Additionally, it comes with the completely original 10 Jensen speaker, original Spring Reverb tank, and the original footswitch. The only thingmissing from this amp is the handle, which was removed at some point. The only modification made that I’m aware of is the addition of a modern, three-prongpower cord. This is an absolutely necessary safety step, particularly ifyou are plugged into a modern sound system, where there are different powersources. The original owner bought it in 1965from Montgomery Ward department store for their then-teenage son. Judgingby the condition of the speaker and tubes, it doesn’t appear that the amp wasused very often by the original owner. The sound: absolutely phenomenal. Perfectly nails that mid-60′sBeatles chime or that “Born on the Bayou” growl when turned up andthe tremelo is engaged. The reverb can be subtle and airy to almostspacey sounding when turned up. The amp is a very Fender blackface soundto me, but the reverb and tremelo are more unique, raw and definitely 60′ssounding. I understand that Jimmy Page used a very similar ampduring the first Zeppelin records, because they have such a great naturaldistortion when turned up. You would be amazed at how full and loud thisamp can get with only one 10 speaker and one power tube. Find me a better sounding, vintage ampthat was made in America at even remotely this price.
