1967 Fender Vibro Champ Vintage Blackface 1×8 Combo Tube Amp AA764 Electric Guitar Amplifier in overall excellent condition for its age. It appears to be all original except for the replaced tubes. The transformers and pots all date to 1966. Everything works perfectly with zero issues. The amp has zero hum and all controls have zero scratchiness. The tube tremolo works and sounds great. The only noticeable blemish is a small slit in the front grill cover. There are some typical tiny scuff marks throughout, but nothing major. This amp still has the two-print power cord. The service history is not known. Does not include any accessories. The Blackface Fender Vibro Champ was introduced in 1964 to build upon the success of the standard Champ Amp and ran until 1968, when cosmetic and circuit changes brought forth the “drip edge” Silverface amps. Still a Champ at heart, the Vibro Champ added a tube tremolo circuit with controls for Speed and Intensity, making this classic recording amp even more versatile without sacrificing any of the original tone. This is a rare Vintage Supro Valco tube guitar amplifier. The serial number is V15025. It does work but there is some static and crackling. It is also missing the volume knob, and the power switch is pushed into the chassis. The power cord does have cracking in it so that would need to be replaced. The leather handle is still intact but has the metal wire sticking out. Overall the amp is well used and will require restoration to get back to 100%. This is a very rare and neat old amplifier. Vintage 1961/62 Harmony H306 tube amp combo, used. Cool sounding 60 year old amp. Pretty clean tone unless you dime it and then it still tends to be slightly clean. I think this amp would take pedals nicely. Footswitch jack works when shorting plug. No footswitch is included. Has had some recent capacitor work done, ie: filter caps and some tremolo caps. Power cord upgrade from 2 prong to 3 prong, old cord included. Tubes: 5Y3, 6V6, 6V6, 12AX7, 12AX7, 6SH7(tremolo). Power Transformer: Tranco (867) #4670, Aug 1961. Output Transformer: Tranco (867) #3427 Aug 1961. Speaker 12 Jensen C12R (220-142). Cabinet: Wear from years of use, covering has some biffs and scuffs, speaker grill cloth appears changed as some time. Leather handle strap is worn but still useable. EXTREMELY RARE, one of the coolest 1960s Vintage UNIVERSAL/VERSATONE by Audio Guild Corp. TUBE COMBO PROFESSIONAL AMPLIFIER in excellent for this year Physical and Working condition. Has 2-way speakers system with 3 separate chambers – for 12 UTAH L. WOOFER, 8 JENSEN SOUND LABORATORIES HIGH FIDELITY LOUDSPEAKER and one of the Chambers is EMPTY (see pics). ALL SPEAKERS AND ALL ANOTHER PARTS ORIGINAL, INCLUDING REVERBERATOR SYSTEM, NOTHING CHANGED. EVERYTHING IN EXCELLENT PHYSICAL AND WORKING CONDITION. JUST SMALL DENT ON THE FRONT LOGO PANEL AND SOME WEARS ON THE CORNERS OF THE CABINET (see pics), BUT IT DOESNT AFFECT ON THE AMAZING SOUND. THIS IS THE PROFESSIONAL MODEL as compared to the student model, Bonham or Lyric that are usually for sale. Similar ones were used for recording 1960′s Surf Tunes and other clean Hi-Fi sounds. Audio Guild was established by Magnatone designer, Donald Bonham. Audio Guild amps were designed by Don Bonham, post Magnatone, and exist under a few different brand names. Amps manufactured in Van Nuys, California in 1960/70s. After leaving Magnatone in the 1960s, chief engineer Don Bonham went on to form the Audio Guild Corporation. Since Bonham owned the patent, the amps featured the same pitch-shifting vibrato circuit that made Magnatone amps famous. Bonham was an engineer with the Hammond Organ Co before he started building amps, so it was only natural he would be interested in the vibrato effect. Bonham believed in the highest quality sound and innovation. The Audio Guild amps he produced in the late 60s were used by pros in the studio where the highest fidelity was much more important than brute power. Carol Kay, the most popular studio bass player in Hollywood, used his amp, also how the Beach Boys used it. Bonham was a big fan of Acoustic Suspension speakers. Unheard of in instrument amps, A. Speakers could not mounted in open cabinets, the large, unrestrained cone travel would destroy the speaker. But Bonham didnt want to use the usual cabinet design of a box filled with foam to dampen the boxs resonate frequency, the foam also lowered efficiency. So Bonham designed a cabinet with a small chamber next to the speaker chamber, with a small hole between the chambers that acted as a valve. It allowed the speaker to function at max efficiency while eliminating any resonating frequencies. A technology Bonham borrowed from the HiFi world was bi-amping. The input was split into high and low frequencies and amplified separately, for a cleaner sound. Donnald Bonham didnt make the loudest or the most, he just made the best. The Champ storied history began in 1948 as a 4-watt amp with a single 8-inch speaker a green tweed linen covering in the form of the original Champion 800. It was soon replaced by the even-smaller Champion 600 a year later, dressed in two tone brown & white vinyl, sporting a 6 speaker to compliment the Princetons 8. The two tone covering became the famous tweed around 1953. The Champ was overhauled in 1964 in the blackface style with a black Tolex covering. The AA764 circuit has remained the same from 1964 right through until 1982 (including the tube rectifier). Over the years, the Champ has gone through several other iterations, from tube to solid-state, from tweed to Tolex, but it consistently remained a key piece of gear for casual players and professional artists alike. This is a nice example of a silverface Champ that has all the hang tags and manual included, a great addition to anyones gear!
