Up for sale, a 1964 Fender Princeton Reverb in excellent condition and in perfect working order. From the very first year of production, this Pre-CBS Blackface Princeton Reverb is freshly serviced, with introductory cosmetics including the Fender Elec Inst Co. Faceplate and no-logo cabinet. The perfect amplifier for small club gigs and studio sessions, the Princeton Reverb is a Fender amp that delivers both well-balanced, sparkling cleans and smooth, harmonic rich overdrive when you dime it out. The Reverb is extremely lush and the Tremolo has a nice pulse with a wide range of speeds. Freshly serviced by our in-house techs here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar to balance originality and functionality, the amp features a genuine vintage Schumacher-made Princeton Reverb output transformer with the correct Fender part numbers, dating to the 2nd week of’65. The power transformer is a Mercury Tone Clone, perfectly replicating the response of the original design, and also the transformer company of choice for Fender’s top-tier Custom Shop builds. The power supply can cap and smaller electrolytics are newer components to ensure that the amp is operating as per factory spec, and a modern three-prong power cable has been installed as well. The amp boasts original CTS pots with visible date codes from the 47th week of’64, and the famed blue molded Ajax tone caps which are an essential part of the Blackface tone. The power tubes are a pair of brand new matched Electro Harmonix 6V6s, the GZ34 rectifier is a vintage USA-made valve, and the preamp is loaded with mostly vintage valves as well from the likes of RCA and General Electric. The speaker is an era correct Oxford 10J4 with a blue foil Fender label on the ceramic magnet and a recent recone. The tube chart is intact, noting Production Run #2, complete with an “NL” date stamp which translates to December of’64. The original smooth black tolex and silver sparkle grillcloth are intact, exhibiting light edge wear with a couple bald bottom corners on the cabinet and the one minor snag on the lower edge of the grillcloth. All of the original hardware is present as well including the chassis straps, handle caps and sphinx glides. The original two-button footswitch is included. Up for sale, a 1964 Fender Princeton in exceptional condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original footswitch. This rare, transitional “tuxedo” Princeton features the Brownface 6G2 circuit with Blackface cosmetics, a pairing that only lasted a few short months. The Princeton has a tone that is very dynamic and warm, with crystalline clean tones giving way to rich, saturated overdrive as you turn up the Volume knob. The circuit is as pure and straightforward as they come, and the single Tone knob has a surprisingly wide range. The bias based tremolo circuit has a strong, dimensional pulse and particularly broad range of speeds too. The circuit retains the original pair of Schumacher transformers which date to the very first weeks of’64, and the chassis stamp dates to 1964 as well. The preamp retains a few of the original blue molded Ajax tone caps as well as a host of properly-spec’d modern tubular caps. All of the original CTS pots are intact, with visible date codes form the 39th week of’63. The tube compliment includes a matched pair of Tung Sol 6V6s, with a pair of Tung Sols in the preamp as well, along with a vintage RCA rectifier. The tube chart is fully intact inside the cabinet, and the “NC” date code that translates to March of’64. The speaker is an era-correct Jensen C10R dating to the 20th week of 1964, freshly reconed and very sweet sounding. The original smooth black tolex is extremely clean with only a few minor scuffs and light edge wear, while the baffle itself has been upgraded with a solid piece of pine and aged silver sparkle grillcloth, work which appears to have been done by the late, great Larry Rodgers. All the stock hardware is present including chassis straps, sphinx glides, handle caps, and a set of original white barrel knobs. The original footswitch is included. Up for sale, a 1956 Fender Princeton in exceptional condition and in perfect working order. This narrow panel Tweed amp has absolutely stunning and virtually un-ambered original tweed, and is one of the more impressive golden-age Fender amps to come through our shop of late. With its narrow panel configuration, this Princeton is considered the “big box” version, with a cab that’s far larger than the single 8 alnico speaker requires, and the resulting sound is deceptively round and rich for the relatively small speaker size. The circuit couldn’t be more simple and pure, with single Volume and Tone knobs and a Class A circuit design, powered by a single 6V6 power tube. The tone is articulate, dynamic and commanding, with the sizzle and churning overdrive of a Champ, but with more tonal range and fuller low end. The top end response is just right, and the amp doesn’t get too trebly, making the tone control quite usable for dialing in exactly as much zing and snap as you desire. The circuit is very original and only serviced as necessary for optimal functionality, retaining the original Triad transformers. The original Stackpole pots, carbon comp resistors, and yellow Astron capacitors are intact, with the Stackpole pots dating to the 47th week of 1955. The power supply caps and smaller electrolytics have been replaced with high quality modern Spragues, and all original Astron Mini Mite electrolytics are included, along with the two-prong power cable (a three-prong is currently installed). The tubes include a vintage RCA 6V6 and Sylvania 5Y3 rectifier along with a modern Mullard 12AX7. The speaker is original and a particularly rare alnico Jensen. The speaker has the signature of the Fender employee who wired the circuit on the edge of the frame, and the speaker is also stamped “FE” just north of the magnet, matching the identical stamps on the chassis and tube chart. The tube chart is notable for its well-preserved condition, with perfect corners, handwritten serial number, and “FE” date stamp which translates to May of 1956. The inside of the cabinet is stamped for Torp’s Music Center and Dancing School in St. Paul, Minnesota, presumably the original purchaser of this amp in 1956. Torp’s also added a mini badge to the lower face of the amp, and clearly this amp never saw much use at the Music Center, given its stunning cosmetic condition. There is barely any ambering of the original tweed, with only extremely minor edge wear. The faceplate is extremely clean, with all of the white silkscreened font, shiny chrome, and a pair of original chicken head knobs. A new leather handle has been installed, yet the original is also included (split at one end). This amp is a true rarity given its condition, and this particular example has been carefully tested and inspected to ensure originality and ideal functionality. Any original parts which necessitated replacement are included, such as capacitors, the two-prong power cable, and leather handle. Freshly serviced by our techs here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar and boasting a full vintage tube set, the Princeton Reverb is the perfect amplifier for small club gigs and studio sessions. This classic Fender AA764 Blackface circuit delivers both well-balanced, sparkling cleans and smooth, harmonic-rich overdrive when you dime it out. The Reverb is extremely lush and the Tremolo has a nice pulse with a wide range of speeds. The circuit retains the original Schumacher output transformer (Fender’s primary transformer supplier in the era) along with a factory spec replacement power transformer. The preamp retains many of the famed blue molded Ajax tone caps (an essential part of the Blackface sound), along with a few replacement tubular caps and smaller electrolytics in the preamp. The larger multi-section can cap in the power supply has also been recently replaced to ensure trouble-free performance, and the power cable has been upgraded to the modern three-prong variety. All of the original pots are intact, dating back to’66. The tubes consist of a vintage matched pair of Magnavox-branded 6V6s with an RCA 5U4 rectifier and all vintage valves in the preamp as well. The speaker is a vintage Jensen C10Q, with a clean frame, traditional brown and gold Jensen foil sticker on the magnet, and 1967 date stamp on the edge of the frame. The speaker retains the original speaker harness as well, complete with the original speaker jack with Fender “F” cap. The tube chart is fully intact, with a “QC” date stamp from March of 1967. The original smooth black tolex and silver sparkle grillcloth are intact, with some modest edge wear on the tolex and uniform aging of the grill, with one small tear central to the cloth. The original faceplate shows a speckling of light wear with a full compliment of witch hat knobs, and the hardware includes a fresh pair of chassis straps along with the original handle caps, sphinx glides (feet), and raised Fender logo. This vintage Blackface Princeton Reverb works exactly as it should, sounds great, and is ready for another 50 years of use. The amp comes complete with a modern two-button footswitch to engage the Reverb and Vibrato effects. For sale is a very clean 1979 (according to the original date on the transformers) Fender Princeton Reverb vintage silverface tube amp. We all know how good these sound and how rare they are becoming compared to the circuit board reissues – reverb and tremolo are killer! Since Ive owned it, the amp has been professionally cleaned, the reverb tank has been serviced, and a new grill cloth has been installed (the tolex on this amp was so clean that it was a mis-match with the ratty old grill cloth, so I replaced it). Per the previous owner, the amp had been serviced, recapped, and re-tubed as necessary. He installed a GE NOS coin base/coke bottle style rec. There were some slight mods done to enhance the depth of the tremolo and to allow for a slower trem rate. There was also a pot professionally installed to allow for easy biasing. The death cap was removed and a 3-prong power cord added. Overall, this amp delivers the traditional Fender warm, rich sound with that classic spank through the original CTS speaker.
