No mid-fi, no gimmicks, no junk. Each piece of equipment is cosmetically restored and fully tested in our well-equipped lab by an engineer with 30+ years of experience in the HiFi world. Through our sister company, which is an authorized dealer for McIntosh, Audio Research, Sonus Faber, ClearAudio, Project, and Sony ES, we have access to OEM parts, service, and support. With regards to sound quality, the MC30 is considered to be the most desirable McIntosh model among audiophiles and collectors. It was only produced from 1954 to 1962, and unlike other McIntosh Tube amps there were no later model anniversary or commemorative editions produced. The restoration goal for this pair was to make these classics as reliable and as cosmetically clean as possible, without disturbing their special vintage sound quality. SkyFi Restoration Notes: New and professional reproduction chrome chassis. Multi-section filter can replaced, and new power resistors installed for the B+ Supply. Bias Diode replaced with a silicon unit. All signal path capacitors replaced with Solen branded polypropylene. Select out-of-spec resistors replaced on the peg boards. Bottom cover and transformers appear to have been repainted with textured matte black. New high quality RCA connectors. New Cinch barrier strips (also called a terminal block) for all speaker connections Both pieces have their original power cords but were reduced to 4 feet in length during the restoration for safety/to remove some past damage. Both MC30′s performed amazingly well on our bench tests. They are perfectly balanced to one another. Clipping at just under 35W each into 8 ohms. Tube Notes: Each MC30 is loaded with a carefully hand-selected set of vintage driver and rectifier type tubes. Alongside current production Tung-Sol 6L6GC output tubes. All tubes were tested and verified on our modern and professional Amplitrex AT-1000 tube tester. V1 – McIntosh 12AX7. V2 – NOS Philips ECG 6189W (12AU7). V3 – Vintage GE 12BH7. V4 – McIntosh 12AX7. Rectifiers – Sovtek 5U4G. Output Tubes – NEW Plate Current Matched Quad – Current Production Tung-Sol. Please see our photos or the above manual for full technical specifications and dimensions. The SkyFi Testing Process for Tube Amplifiers: We start with a visual inspection of all internal components to make sure there are no signs of stress or aging. Capacitors are checked for telltale sings of bulging or leaking, resistors are checked for signs of overheating or cracking, and tubes are inspected for signs of stress overheating or cracking. We then power up the unit carefully and run a simple 1k sine wave while monitoring the output on an oscilloscope for signs of distortion or noise. Finally we run the amplifier to its full rated power into the appropriate resistive load provided by our Sencore amplifier tester. If there is an issue, it will usually be noticeable at this point. If it all looks clean we will often test for THD (Total Harmonic Distortion) measured by our Keithley distortion meter, and compare it against the original manufacturers specifications. The amplifier the remains powered on to “burn in” on our test bench for a few hours to make sure there are no heat related issues. If there are balanced inputs available they will also be tested. We also test all tubes for output gain and leakage on our calibrated B&K 747 tester against the original manufacturers specifications. If needed, the tubes will be replaced from our vast NOS (New Old Stock) vintage or modern inventory. Final testing involves pushing actual music thorough the amplifier. We’ve learned over time that some issues are only noticeable to a trained ear while listening to familiar source material. Our test bench has reference vintage KEF speakers that we’re very familiar with which quickly reveal any discrepancies. Some amplifiers will then move into our listening room where they are tested with our in-house reference speakers of choice. If we dont have the original manufactures packaging, we use heavy duty double-ply corrugated boxes with custom made to your item Instapak expanding foam custom inserts. In many cases this has proven to be better than the original packaging! We also use high quality fiber reinforced tape to seal our packages. We have too many items for sale and its nearly impossible to keep track of offers outside of the official system. We accept trade-ins of equal or lesser value under certain conditions. Please visit our website to submit your gear for full consideration. We will only consider high-end equipment from mainstream manufacturers such as McIntosh, Mark Levinson, Audio Research, Krell, etc. And will typically pass on displays, projectors, receivers, dated surround processors, and mid-fi equipment of any type. We will offer a fair value for your equipment, but keep in mind were running a business and will need to be able to resell the equipment at a profit after investing a great deal of time and resources in testing, certifying, repairing, cleaning, and packaging the incoming equipment. SELL US YOUR GEAR (Working or Broken). Simply visit our website to submit your gear for full consideration. We are currently operating from our shop inside our dedicated building in Glen Rock, NJ. We have several well-equipped and dedicated listening areas, plus a dedicated listening studio with tons of equipment of all makes and models. Were not a store, so please dont make an appointment if youre just curious as to how a speaker or piece of equipment sounds. In essence – no tire kickers please. This is super useful when purchasing large speakers or heavy amplifiers. Its also great for ensuring your new turntable is setup correctly in its final resting place. For sale is an Eico HF-81 with a partial restoration already completed. For whatever reason, the previous owner didn’t finish this project, but did seem to stay organized. I simply do not and will not have the time needed to dedicate to this so I want to move it on to the next owner who can. There are wires taped to the bottom cover that appear to have been removed but not replaced. Please see the photo with the bottom cover off. Unit does have some surface rust, especially on the inside of the bottom cover. Unit is in good shape overall. Power tubes are Russian, not sure of the condition of the other old stock tubes. Terms (Please read these). Please message me if you have any gear for sale but dont want to deal with listing. I live in Central California and travel to LA as well as the bay area often! You do not need to live near me. This rules comes from dealing with an older individual who offered an attractive trade if I delivered the speakers to him. This ended up being a tremendous waste of time. I sell mostly vintage electronics. As such, these items are old and typically out of spec from when they were new. I do my best to test these items and make sure they work before theyre sent out, but I do not guarantee or represent that they will meet the original specifications. I may not even be able to test them, in which case assume that they dont work. However, there are times where I may miss something. If that happens, I hope that you would agree that the most efficient way to take care of an issue is if you simply message me before opening a case or doing anything else. I need an outlet for these items online, so I have no reason to send you something that doesnt work unless Ive noted that it doesnt. I pack items correctly. I know what it takes to get an item to you safely. You will NOT have to ask for it. I will do my best to get items out within a few days, however there are instances where that is not possible. The policies here are difficult in this regard because these vintage items in particular need to be moved and packed carefully. I do not want to damage anything by rushing. With this all being said, if there is any reason that you dont feel that you can leave FIVE stars in every category, please reach out to me before leaving any feedback other than positive with all five stars in every category. Please message me to work this out. The item “Vintage Eico HF-81 Stereo Tube Amplifier Partially Restored Read” is in sale since Monday, October 18, 2021. This listing includes a beautiful vintage H. Scott 222C Stereomaster vacuum tube integrated laboratory amplifier in clean and electrically restored condition. This amplifier was restored approximately 6-months ago by the original owner. Some of the work that was done to this amplifier includes: testing all tubes and replacing any weak tubes, cleaned all controls and switches with DeOxit, replaced bad / out of spec capacitors, replaced any out of spec resistors, all solder joints have been inspected and any loose connections were re-soldered. After the restoration was complete, this amplifier was bench tested and it is in great working / sounding condition. As the photos show, this vintage amplifier is exceptionally clean inside and out and was well cared for and maintained over the years. The entire face still looks fantastic with clear lettering and all four corners are still sharp. All of the knobs are clean and in great shape. The original power cord is in good shape and is not brittle. All of the transformers and the chassis (inside and out) show only minimal wear and no corrosion. This is one of the cleanest Scott 222C amps that I have come across in a long time. Own this vintage H. Scott 222C vacuum tube stereo amplifier for a great price. The item “Vintage H. H. Controls : 4 bias controls; 2 AC balance controls; Meter selector switch; Power on/off switch. Tube complement: (Total of 10) 4 – 7027A, 2 – 6BR8A, 4 – 6CL6, plus 5 silicon diodes. Dimensions : 17″ wide x 12-1/2″ deep x 8-1/2 hgihg. Power Consumption : 350 watts at 117 volts, 50-60 cps AC. The KT-550 was legendary engineer Stu Hegeman’s last work for Lafayette before he moved to Harmon Kardon. The circuit of the KT-550 is the direct predecessor of the HK Citation II, and is extremely similar. I have had this example for about 1 1/2 years now. I found it in original and very dusty condition at a neighbor’s garage sale, gave it a very thorough cleaning, and performed a full electrical restoration with the parts and values recommended by Jim McShane. The only passive components that have not been replaced are six of the wire wound resistors that measured in spec. The power supply now uses 1000 PIV fast/low noise UF5408 diodes for rectification and higher value capacitors from JJ, F&T, and Nichicon. Film capacitors are Solen PPE, Russain paper-in-oil K40Y-P, Cornell Dubillier “orange drops”, and Panasonic. Small-value caps are Cornell Dubillier silver mica. Resistors are all very high quality units from of Precisions Resistive Products, Vishay-Dale, Mills, KOA Speer, Allen Bradley, etc. 221 screen stopper resistors were also added on the power tubes. A full parts list is available on request. The 6CL6s and 6BR8As are the strong-testing vintage units that were in the amp when I got it. The 7027As are reissue Tung Sols with approximately 100 hrs on them. Input jacks have been replaced with modern gold-plated jacks, and a three-prong power cord was installed in place of the original non-polarized cord, with earth ground tied to the chassis for safety. The bias meter works perfectly, meaning that setting it to the indicated mark does in fact result in the correct current through the power tubes. The AC balance setting does not work. However this is moot since the original method of measurement didn’t reliably have better results than just setting the pots in the center. The AC balance has been set for the current tubes, however, by matching the signals at the power tube grids of each section as closely as possible with a dual channel oscilloscope. Actual power output at the onset of clipping is around 40wpc. I can provide 1kH and 10kHZ square wave samples as well if that tickles your fancy. The paint on the transformers and chassis has its share of scrapes and scratches, as seen in the photos, but it’s still a very handsome piece with a nice patina. Internally, some of the potting material from the power transformer has liquified and oozed down through the hole in the chassis. This doesn’t affect anything, but in case you’re curious what the black blob above the choke in the 5th photo is, there’s your answer. The amp will come with a copy of the original assembly and operating manual as well as all of the original components that were replaced. The amplifier works as expected, and sounds incredible. It’s been a labor of love and I’ve enjoyed it thoroughly, but I’ve found I prefer the sound of other topologies, so I’ve decided it’s time to pass this along to someone who will use it. Please let me know if you have any questions or would like additional pictures of anything. It is my passion to bring you the very finest restoration I can. My quest to explore, diagnose, repair and service electronic and mechanical devices. Began when I was 7 years old. I’d get up very early, everyday in the Summer and on Saturday mornings during the school year. I’d take my Huffy bicycle. Around TV service and electronic repair store rubbish areas. I’d hit the trash cans of neighbors, industrial and retail centers, collecting interesting. Specimens of electronic chassis and motor driven gizmos, to dissect, study and organize. In my teens I built and studied projects from Heathkit and. Other schematics featured in Mechanics Illustrated, Electronics Illustrated and similar related publications. In the Navy I went to school, studied and. Worked as an Aviation Electrician repairing and servicing military aircraft. Now that I’m retired, I still love to tinker with electronic and mechanical. Several radios, record players, amplifiers, and color wheels that I will be restoring over the next several years. My goal is to make these old, vintage. Devices function like new again. This listing includes a beautiful vintage H. Scott 222 Stereomaster vacuum tube integrated amplifier in clean and electrically restored condition. This amplifier was restored approximately 6-months ago by the original owner. Some of the work that was done to this amplifier includes: testing all tubes and replacing any weak tubes, replacing and balancing the four 6BQ5 output tubes, replaced the rectifier tube with a new 5AR4 tube, cleaned all controls and switches with DeOxit, replaced bad / out of spec capacitors, replaced any out of spec resistors, all solder joints have been inspected and any loose connections re-soldered, installed a new power toggle switch, installed four feet on the bottom of chassis. After the restoration was complete, this amplifier was bench tested and it is in great working / sounding condition. As the photos show, this vintage amplifier is exceptionally clean and was well cared for and maintained over the years. The entire face still looks very good but it does have a couple minor cosmetic blemishes (shown in the photos). As mentioned previously, a new power switch was installed on the side of this amp and, the two knobs on the left and right side (4 total) are not original to this unit. The original power cord is in great shape and is not brittle. All of the transformers and the chassis (inside and out) show only minimal wear and no corrosion. This is one of the cleanest Scott 222 amps that I have come across in a long time. Own this vintage H. Scott 222 vacuum tube stereo amplifier for a great price. The item “Vintage H. H. We’re pleased to offer this Super Rare 220V version of this American legend. Even rarer to find one in this chrome is simply gorgeous, and the paintwork is superb. Plus this vintage tube amplifier received a complete internal restoration, bringing it to better than factory specs and reliability, while delivering the original sound signature that McIntosh intended. We achieve this delicate balance by upgrading components that don’t affect the sound quality, while keeping the ones that do. If you live overseas and have wanted a McIntosh tube amp, this is the only way to avoid using an external voltage converter which tends to be a huge compromise. Plus this MC240 is fitted with a complete set of vintage tubes to boot! Configurable for 240V or 120V operation upon request. Includes a very high quality custom embroidered dust cover. Fully Restored: Power Supply was completely rebuilt with modern components. Select Resistors replaced on tag boards. All original red line Sprague difilm caps left in place, all high voltage Bumblebee caps replaced with Paper in Oil caps. Original Bumblebee input caps left in place. Because this unit has a 120/240 transformer, the 125V/117V AC Voltage selector switch was repurposed to act as a power On/Off switch. Telefunken 12AX7 Smooth Plate (V1 – The critical first tube shared between L/R Channels is perfectly balanced). Philips NOS JAN 5814 (Military Spec 12AU7 Sub). 6L6 – Current Production Tung Sol Reissue 6L6GC. We also test all tubes for output gain and leakage on our modern professional. Tester against the original manufacturers specifications.
