Up for sale, a circa 1948 Gibson BR-6 vintage tube amp in excellent condition and in perfect working order. Recently serviced, this BR-6 is the two-input version available from 1946-48, pushing 10 watts via a pair of vintage RCA 6V6 power tubes through a Jensen P10S speaker. The tone is warm and fairly dark in its voicing from 1-5 on the single Volume dial, gaining grit and overdriven roar pushing towards 10. The amp really shines when dimed out with the midrange character unique to octal preamp amps and a real gutsy, punchy sound that’s thick and saturated. The point-to-point circuit has been fully rebuilt with a pair of vintage Hammond transformers, new electrolytic caps and signal caps from the likes of Sprague and Mallory. The speaker is a vintage Jensen P10S alnico magnet driver (replacing the original field coil) with a clean Jensen foil label on the magnet and date stamp on the edge of the dark green frame from 1953. The amp retains its original smooth brown covering, made from the same material used on early’50s Gibson guitar cases. The enclosure is extremely clean, with very minor edge wear, and the textured gold grillcloth is equally as well-kept. The large “G” gold badge is intact central to the grill, and the faceplate has clean silkscreen graphics. Even the original leather handle is present and still viable.

1960s Univox Meteor U-45B Vintage Tube Combo Amp 1x12 with Tremolo, Serviced

Up for sale, a 1960s Meteor U-45B 1×12 combo amp in excellent condition and in perfect working order, complete with a footswitch to engage the Tremolo. This rare Japanese-made amp was crafted by Univox in OEM capacity for their little-seen Meteor brand, identical to the Univox-branded combo of the same name. Sparingly little information is available as to the nature of the Meteor brand specifically, but it was likely used by Unichord/Univox for the Japanese domestic market. This combo features a single channel, three-input design (Guitar, Acc, Aux), delivering 10W of power with simple Volume, Tone, and Tremolo (speed) controls. Surprisingly full-sounding given its form factor, this U-45B offers muscular, expansive lows (enhanced by the relative depth of the cabinet) and punchy, crisp trebles that aren’t overly pointed or brittle. The circuit cascades into creamy, harmonic-rich overdrive around 6 on the dial, thickening up further when diming the amp out. The Tremolo has a strong pulse, only active with the footswitch plugged in, with the knob governing the speed of the effect. The circuit is very original and recapped as needed, retaining the stock transformers. A three-prong cable has also been installed. Tubes include a matched pair of Toshiba 6BM8s, a 12AX7 and a 6X4 (rectifier). This amp is loaded with a Weber Signature Series Sig12F 12 speaker, designed for early’50s Tweed-style tone that accentuates the amp’s overdrive capabilities. There are just a few small marks on the black tolex, the gray grillcloth is clean, and the Meteor badge is present. The silkscreened graphics on the control plate are pristine, and the original trio of reflector cap knobs is present. A modern footswitch is included.

Up for sale, a 1972 Guyatone Reverb Jazz GA-1050 2×12 combo amp, freshly serviced and in excellent condition. Produced during the “lawsuit” era of Japanese guitar/amplifier production, this Guyatone combo is an extremely faithful copy of a Silverface Fender Pro Reverb, complete with “drip edge”-style aluminum trim. Loaded with a pair of EHX 6L6 power tubes and the original pair of “wideband type” Japanese-made alnico speakers, this Guyatone delivers glassy, balanced cleans very much in the vein of a Pro Reverb, with smooth, lightly compressed overdrive when pushing the amp towards 10 on the Volume dial. The Reverb Jazz GA-1050 features a dual-channel, dual-input design, with footswitchable Reverb and Tremolo on Channel Two. The amp retains all of its original transformers, and the power transformer has taps for both 100v and 117v operation, with a voltage switch on the back of the chassis. The original Japanese TBM pots are all present as well, with visible date codes from the 43rd week of 1972. Freshly serviced by our techs here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar, this amp has been fully recapped to ensure ideal performance. All component voltages have been tested to ensure optimal functionality, and additional maintenance includes spraying out all pots and tensioning tube sockets. The original two-prong power cable is present, and a three-prong can be installed at no charge at the next owner’s discretion. Beyond the Electro-Harmonix 6L6 power tubes, the amp features all vintage Japanese-branded preamp tubes (likely original to the amp). Fender-style cosmetic touches include smooth black tolex, silver sparkle grillcloth with “drip edge” aluminum trim, a “Silverface” faceplate with turquoise silkscreen graphics, and a raised Guytatone badge. There is only light wear on the tolex and modest darkening of the grillcloth. Hardware includes the tilt-back legs, casters, and “Rhythm Machine” serial badge (72-prefix serial translates to’72 production).

1967 Fender Dual Showman Black Panel Vintage Tube Amp Head AB763, Serviced

Up for sale, a 1967 Fender Dual Showman Black Panel vintage tube amp head in exceptional condition, recently retubed and freshly serviced. Differentiating it from other Showman heads of the era, the “Dual” variant has an output transformer ideally wound for a 4ohm load (as opposed to 8ohms). Loaded with a fresh quad of properly biased JJ 6L6 power tubes, this Showman has a sound that is powerful, clear, and sparkling. As Fender’s flagship “piggyback” amp head of the Black Panel era, the Dual Showman delivers 85 watts of all-tube power via the AB763 circuit. The Dual Showman is a real powerhouse for guitar, bass, or your favorite Fender Rhodes or combo organ. The low end is ample, and the amp has plenty of headroom and efficient clean power until about 6-7 on the Volume knob, where the signal starts to compress and overdrive. Fresh back from our techs and ready for another half century, this Dual Showman is ready for stage and studio use. The circuit is very original, retaining all of the original transformers which date between late 1966 and the first weeks of’67. The preamp retains the majority original blue molded Ajax caps, central to the sweet, musical tone that’s a hallmark of the Black Panel sound. The preamp features a few new low noise metal film resistors, a couple new caps (high quality Mallory and Sprague replacements) and the majority of the original CTS pots, with visible date codes from’66. The power supply has been recapped with F&Ts. A new bias cap has been installed, along with a three-prong power cable. The tube chart is intact inside the head cabinet, with a “QD” date stamp that translates to April of 1967. This amp retains the original smooth black tolex and silver sparkle grillcloth, both of which are notably well-kept. All of the hardware is intact, including the piggyback clip bars, handle, corners and raised metal Fender logo. The original faceplate also retains its stock complement of witch hat knobs.

Up for sale, a 1979 Fender Bassman 135 in excellent condition and in perfect working order. Introduced at the tail end of Fender’s Silverface era, the Bassman “135″ was outfitted with Fender’s ultra linear transformers, designed to coax maximal tube power and clean headroom out of a quartet of 6L6 power tubes. A Bassman that lives up to its name as a viable bass amp for stage and studio use, the Bassman 135 also offers pristine, bold cleans applicable for guitar, pedal steel, or pairing with a Rhodes piano. Dime out the Master Volume for sparkling, balanced cleans or crank the preamp and keep the Master low for more compressed overdrive and grit. The circuit is virtually untouched, retaining the Schumacher-made transformers which date to’79, and date codes on the original CTS pots are from 1979 as well. All of the original blue molded caps are intact in the preamp too. Originally an “Export” model, the power transformer has additional taps for international voltages, currently wired for USA 120v use. The tube complement includes matching original Fender-branded preamp tubes, and the power tubes are a matched quartet of Sovtek 5881s (6L6GC). The original smooth black tolex and silver sparkle grillcloth with faded orange stripe are intact, and the tube chart is intact inside the cabinet. All of the original hardware is present including the nickel corners chassis straps, handle, and sphinx glides. All of the original witch hat knobs are present as well, along with the raised Fender logo.
